Lydia McLaughlin

On Growing Up:
I grew up in a wonderful province in Canada called Newfoundland. I have fantastic memories of my childhood. I’m no stranger to TV. When I was six, I hosted an award-winning kid’s news show called Children’s Checkpoint. I spent my teen years in San Diego and I graduated from the University of San Diego with a degree in Communications.
Known For:
I hope I am known as a good mom, a sweet soul, and a fun person to be around who is full of zest and passion.
On Life:
I try to live my life focused on what really matters and for me that’s family. I grew up with a strong, close family and I want my kids to feel that same sense of closeness and security.
For Personal Enjoyment:
I love to experience new cultures! Traveling gives you a greater appreciation for your home. We vacation in Italy almost every Summer and I write many travel reviews for our magazine. I like being outside whether it’s enjoying water activities – like stand up paddle-boarding and skin diving – or riding bikes with my family.
On Fitness:
I’m a big fan of ‘bootcamp’ classes and truly believe that any form of exercise is great both for the mind and body. Before kids I used to work out almost every day, but now, I’m lucky to get to the gym 2-3 times a week.
On Health:
My Dad is a cancer survivor and cured himself by cutting out animal protein and becoming a vegetarian. While I’m still a carnivore and total foodie, I think that eating clean foods is important to overall health. As a family, Doug and I try to stick to organic foods and quality ingredients, both at home and when we’re dining out.
On Living in Orange County:
Orange County is amazing. So beautiful and full of cool people. We’re plugged into a great community and our life is full of friends and family.
Personal Passion:
I’m most passionate about my roles as wife and mom! I’m lucky to have a best friend and partner in my husband Doug and to be raising two of the sweetest souls I know with him. I’ve led several “mom groups” and love exchanging ideas and getting advice about raising children in Orange County.
Giving Back:
I am involved with a charity called iSanctuary, which is an organization that advocates for exploited people around the world, educates the public about human trafficking and its prevention and strives to help these survivors reintegrate as valued members of society. I believe it’s important to give back and always help out others in any way you can.
